Get Technical
ACOUSTISORB is a light compressible sound absorption material manufactured from thermally bonded polyester. The product provides excellent acoustic properties while needing no special clothing or masks to be worn during installation.

Get Physical

The physical properties of polyester are:

Melting point: 250°C
Percent volatiles: Nil. ACOUSTISORB has no chemical additives, no odour or emission of volatile organic compounds.
Specify gravity: 1.38
Combustability: Product is combustible when tested at 750°C (SANS 10177-V) Auto–ignition temp 515°C (Din 51794)
Fire Properties: CSIR tests incorporating the product in a normal over-purlin installation proved that, with ACOUSTISORB, the spread of flame is negligible. When tested with gypsum wall partitions, a 72 min fire rating is achieved. (SANS 10177-11)
(ACOUSTISORB may be used as specified for all types of buildings subject to the provisos listed in Part T of Section 3 of SANS 10400)* *SANS 10400 – 1990. The application of the National Building Regulations.ASTM-E84:
Spread of flame = 0
Smoke index = 160
Smoke toxicity =< 1 (low toxicity)
Other properties: Non-allergenic, non–irritant, resilient.
Ingredients: Organic, long chain synthetic polymer.
Chemical entity: Composed of polyester.
Max. service temp: 150°C (when using a laminate, the adhesive limits the maximum service temperature to 70°C.)
Alkalinity: pH 7.8
Moisture absorption: Exposure to an atmosphere of 50oC and 95% relative humidity for four days gives moisture absorption of less than 0.2% by volume.

Get Applied
ACOUSTISORB is ideal for use in walls and partitions as well as many other applications.

Get Installed
Conventional methods of fixing the insulation may be used to install ACOUSTISORB. It is easily cut with a pair of industrial scissors or shears.

Get Performance
(ISO 352- Acoustics measurement of sound absorption in a reverberation room).

Note: The denser product (25mm/32kg/m3) also provides excellent 'sound insulating' properties and therefore has a good STI (Sound Transmission Index). The STI has to be determined in conjunction with construction systems such as plasterboard for wall partitions.

Get the facts
All testing was done under laboratory conditions. On site results may vary due to site conditions and quality of installation. In the case of unusual conditions, a Brits technical representative should be contacted to establish the suitability of material.
