Steel brandering:
 
This system is designed as an alternative to timber brandering. The steel brandering is fitted perpendicular to the roof trusses by means of a suspension bracket. (Truss spacings should not exceed 1200mm) The brandering must be fixed at 400 or 500mm centres depending on the thickness of the plasterboard to be used (refer to the table above). Plasterboards are fixed to the brandering by means of 25mm drywall screws at 150mm centres.
 
Joints can be formed with plastic or steel "H" strip or meranti coverstrips in the case of 6.4mm plasterboard ceilings or taped and skimmed in the case of 9 - 9.5mm plasterboard.
 
Steel brandering can also be used in bulkhead construction.

Steel brandering should be installed as follows:
 
  1. Steel brandering sections must be fixed at 90 degrees to the roof trusses.
  2. The suspension bracket to be fixed to the Tie – Beam by either nail or screw at maximum 1 200mm centres and located into Steel Brandering.
  3. The brandering should be fixed at centres as indicated in table below.
  4. The jumbo board should be fixed at 90 degrees to the stel brandering: e.g parallel to the roof trusses, with drywall screws spaced at maximum 150mm centres.
  5. The steel brandering system can be used with either the H jointing strip detail, tape and jointed ceiling detail or flush, plastered ceiling detail.
  6. The joiner sectionmust be used to join two pieces of steel brandering.
  7. It is advisable to fix a 20 x 20 steel angle to the perimeter walls as a support for the steel brandering and jumbo board fixing, this will ensure a solid base for cornice fixing.
  8. Truss (Tie – Beam) spacings not to exceed 1 200mm.
