The following procedures must be carried out by a qualified plumber or installer.

The KWIKTHERM thermostat T105 will cut out and the reset button will activate if the following conditions prevail:

  1. The temperature of the water is in excess of 104 degrees Celsius.
  2. Power surges or fluctuations which exceeds specified amperage of 20 amps.
  3. Inadequate electrical connections.
  4. Installation of elements which exceed the capacity of the 20 amp thermostat.
  5. Recommended operating temperature is 65 degrees Celsius.

The thermostat is a sensitive electrical component which regulates the temperature of water in your geyser. Kwikot has introduced new specifications for this component which in the past has been source of much frustration to installers and plumbers. The following new specifications apply to the new Kwiktherm T105 thermostat.

  • VOLTAGE TESTING TERMINALS
If the tester indicates there is power to the terminals and the water in the geyser is cold, then the element is faulty.
If the tester indicates there is no power to the terminals and the water is cold, the the thermostat is faulty.
  • The amperage has been increased to 20 amps and this adequately caters for all elements in geysers from 50 litres to 250 litres.
  • Bipolar safety feature, - isolates power supply in event of malfunctioning electrical componentry and overheating.
  • The design of the outer casing is of robust nature of aluminium and durable plastic.
  • The terminals have been redesigned to reduce the opportunity of burnt connections or inadequate electrical connection.
  • The probes are protected and connects securely into the elements. Terminals blocks and the wiring between the thermostat and elements is eliminated.
  • The thermostat fits securely into the thermostat pocket which is housed in the element. The thermostat probe will respond to the temperature of water in the cylinder.
  • The adjustment switch for setting the temperature is clearly marked with a little arrow to either increase or decrease the temperature of the water.
Kwikot further enhances the technical specifications of their electrical componentry to exceed both the SABS and international standards.

Installation/Replacement Instructions

NOT ENOUGH HOT WATER
  • check temperature setting on thermostat
  • check water temperature by inserting thermometer in thermostat pocket
IS WATER WITHIN 10 DEGREES CELSIUS OF THE TEMPERATURE SETTING ON THE THERMOSTAT?
  • NO - Replace thermostat
  • YES - Not a geyser or thermostat fault
          - Do NOT replace thermostat
May be due to:
                - higher hot water usage
                - cold weather
                - unlagged pipes
                - ripple relay control
                - load shedding relay

NO HOT WATER
TESTING VOLTAGE TERMINALS TO SEE IF KWIKTHERM T105 THERMOSTAT OR ELEMENT IS FAULTY
  • If the tester indicates there is power to the terminals and the water in the geyser is cold, then the element is faulty. (See replacement of element procedure)
  • If the tester indicates there is no power to the terminals and the water is cold, then the thermostat is faulty. (See replacement of thermostat)
  • If the tester indicates there is power to the terminals and the water is excessively hot, then the thermostat is out of calibration, or the setting is too high. (See replacement of thermostat)
